Exceptional layout
Large property footprint allows each hole to stand alone. Elevations, hills and curves provide challenging golf shots and unique vistas. Charlotte has plenty of golf courses and TPC Piper Glen is one of my favorites.
Impeccable conditions. Breathtakingly beautiful.
I am not a member at the newly revamped Piper Glen course here in Charlotte but I was invited as a guest to play a morning round on 10/18/18. Piper Glen, if you're not aware, has been under major maintenance/repair/re-design for quite a while now. I must say, you guys have done a fantastic job as restoring this course.
I was so impressed by how beautiful this course looked that I took pictures on nearly every hole. I've played some gorgeous courses and this ranks right up there with some of the best.
The greens and fairways are coming in so nicely. You guys have done such a nice job - your staff should be commended.
I'll be back!
Excellent Course!
An excellent, challenging and playable course. A wonderful addition to the ClubCorp family. Older members complained about number of new members, but that's what brings energy and life (a/k/a money for improvements) to a club. Heard those same members say the course has never been in better shape. Will definitely play it again.
Outstanding layout
Piper Glen is a great layout that at one time hosted PGA Senior Tour events. Playing from the white tees, makes it very playable especially with no rough this time of year. The course has several terrific holes including a great 16th, 17th and 18th hole finish......holes that are challenging, but that also present the chance to make a couple birdies at the end of the round. The best part of the course is the greens. Even this time of year they are very smooth and firm. The greens have lots of undulation which can make them difficult, but at the same time is something I enjoy.....even though I am not a very good putter. Condition wise, the fairways are very sparse which is to be expected this time of year, and it is very wet. That would be my only complaint. It seems the areas around the greens is particularly soggy, making short shots around the green a little tricky. Overall though, a fun course.
Excellent experience, great staff and food
Really enjoyable course in good shape. EXTREME heat has forced them to water a lot so course and greens are very soft, but certainly good. Fun layout is not too challenging but definitely has some teeth. Rough is taller than most courses, but very fair. Only conditions complaint we had was that there was a ton of thatch from mowing that should be blown away. But overall conditions were very very good. Nice facility getting a lot of upgrades in this remodel. Cool restaurant/bar with great bartender (Kendra?). Staff was great from bag/cart guys to check in, to restaurant. 17 and 18 are really fun finishing holes for a match or tourney.
Great course but not staff
The course was the best I have played in this area, however the starter/ranger Don made our round miserable. He followed us to every hole telling us to speed up our play, however there was no one behind us and we pointed this out to him. When we finished the 7th hole he asked us to skip 8 and go to 9, again we reminded him that no one was behind us. We refused to skip 8 and told him we paid for 18 and we're going to play all 18. Don then left us alone for the remainder of our round. I know this sound unbelievable but I repeat........ No one was behind us and we finished our 4 man round in 3 hours and 55 minutes. We asked the bag boy about the starter and his response was that he had nothing to say as no one would do anything about Don's poor attitude. Hope that someone from TPC reads this and it makes them as miserable as we were.
This course (and TPC Michigan) were just purchased by Dallas based Clubcorp. As a long time member who's played many of their 150+ clubs I can tell you without hesitation this will be corrected. They typically invest $1M+ in new acquisitions and put in a new GM to manage.
